Living Papers · a new format for published research

Research you explore, not just read.

Kian turns published papers into Living Papers — interactive experiences where you test hypotheses, run the experiments, and reach the conclusions yourself. PDFs were designed in 1993. Science doesn't have to stay there.

The problem

Twenty pages, unread

Most published research is only ever skimmed — its evidence locked in static figures and dense prose.

The format

Papers as investigations

Readers predict outcomes, run the experiments, and watch the evidence unfold — reaching the conclusion before being told it.

The rule

The paper is the truth

Every number, figure, and definition comes directly from the published work. Nothing invented, ever.

The first Living Paper is live.

A ransomware detector scored a perfect 100% — and the paper behind it proves it learned almost nothing. Six questions stand between you and why.

How a paper becomes an experience.

A repeatable format — hook, explore, discover, validate — built with the authors, faithful to the publication.

01 · Hook

Start with the surprise

Every paper has one moment that made its authors sit up. The experience opens there — not with the abstract.

02 · Explore

Reader runs the evidence

Hypotheses before results. Sliders, toggles, and live experiments instead of static figures — the reader investigates.

03 · Validate

Anchored to the publication

Every interactive view pairs with the exact published figure. One toggle between experience and paper, always.

Built by a researcher, for researchers.

Kian Esmaeili holds a B.S. in Cybersecurity from the University of North Georgia and is pursuing his M.S. in Cybersecurity at Georgia Tech, with first-author work on AI-driven endpoint security and machine-learning evaluation. The first paper on Kian is his own, so every design decision was tested where it matters most: on real published research, by its own author.
